We cover the fundamentals of planning, running, and making sense of a useful playtest. You’ll also walk through a playtest planning exercise with me to create a roadmap for collecting player feedback.
The goal is simple: you’ll leave with a concrete playtesting plan and feel ready to run a focused, useful test on your next build.
A few things to get right
You absolutely can learn a lot from just a few players. But you do need to get a few things right.
- Rule #1
Know what you want to learn
A few focused questions beat a mountain of scattered feedback.
- Rule #2
Test with the “right” players
The closer your testers are to strangers who’ll find your game on Steam (or whatever platform your game is on), the better.
- Rule #3
Stay neutral & focus on behaviors (not opinions)
Your job is to stay neutral, not help. The game has to communicate without you.
